Rules & Notation

Core Rules

ParadigmChess30 follows all the standard rules of chess.

That means if you already know chess, you already understand ParadigmChess30.

Pieces move the same way — with one simple change: the Bishop becomes a Dragon Bishop (D).

Movement Summary

K

King: Moves one square in any direction.

Q

Queen: Moves any number of squares straight or diagonally.

R

Rook: Moves any number of squares vertically or horizontally.

N

Knight: Moves in an L-shape, jumping over pieces.

D

Dragon Bishop: Moves diagonally like a Bishop, with added range inspired by the Xiangqi horse.

Pawn: Moves forward, captures diagonally, and can promote upon reaching the final rank.

Special Moves

Castling:

Works the same as in classical chess.

En Passant:

Fully valid.

Promotion:

Pawns can promote to a Queen, Rook, Knight, or Dragon Bishop.

Notation Guide

ParadigmChess30 uses standard algebraic notation:

K = King
Q = Queen
R = Rook
N = Knight
D = Dragon Bishop

Examples:

Dc4+ means the Dragon Bishop moves to c4 and gives check.

Qd5 means the Queen moves to d5.

0-0 means castle short.

0-0-0 means castle long.
